The Sunnah of wiping over the khuff
فَتَوَضَّأَ وَمَسَحَ عَلَى الْخُفَّيْنِ
Al-Mughira ibn Shu'ba (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet ﷺ performed wudu and wiped over his khuffs.
Narrated in Sahih al-Bukhari (203) and Sahih Muslim (274)
Wiping over the khuff is a mercy and a facility from Allah, especially in cold weather and when travelling.
How to perform masah
- Perform a complete wudu, including washing your feet, then put on the khuff.
- When you renew your wudu, wipe over the top of the khuff with wet hands instead of washing your feet.
- Follow the time limit: one day and one night for a resident, three days and nights for a traveller.
- When the time ends, or if you take the khuff off, wash your feet at your next wudu.
